Overview
The 1998 Eurographics UK Conference is taking place at the
University of Leeds. There is a very full programme of invited talks, tutorials
and contributed papers - these being a mix of refereed papers
and shorter presentations. This year the number of contributed papers is so high that
we are running two parallel streams.
Invited Speakers
Our four invited speakers are making major contributions to
the development of our subject in the UK:
- Professor David Hogg, from the world of computer vision, will
talk on Perceptual Interfaces, and how we may communicate
with computers in novel and intuitive ways;
- Dr John Patterson - to complement this - will talk about the relationship between
computer graphics and computer vision;
- Professor Peter Dew will move us to the world of virtual
working environments on the Web, looking at his experiences
with the Leeds Virtual Science Park;
- Professor Bob Hopgood continues the Web theme, by looking
at the challenges faced as we move to the next century.
Tutorials
The first day of the conference (25th March) is given over to
tutorials. There is a choice in the morning between
hands-on 3D Internet graphics with VRML, and medical visualization;
and in the afternoon between hands-on IRIS Explorer,
and web design.
Contributed Papers
This year - for the first time - the conference contains two
styles of paper - refereed papers, and shorter presentations.
These will be held on 26th and 27th March.
Rendering Session - Conference within a Conference
This year - also for the first time - there is a conference within a
conference: two sessions devoted specially to Rendering.
Social
We hope you will also enjoy the social side of the conference. This year's special
event is a dinner at Tetley's Brewery Wharf, with a chance to see how the
English pub has developed over the past centuries.
Accommodation
Accommodation is provided on-campus, in Charles Morris Hall,
close by the lecture theatres.
Leeds
Leeds is - perhaps surprisingly - an interesting city to visit. It
is fast becoming the financial centre of the north (of England),
and the city is today an exciting place to be - and of course is a short distance from the
beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
School of Computer Studies at the University of Leeds
The event is hosted by the School of Computer Studies at
the University of Leeds.
Distributed multimedia systems are a major focus within the
School of Computer Studies with the themes of the conference reflecting some of the
current research interests of the School.
Eurographics
The event is organised by the
UK Chapter of Eurographics.
Eurographics itself is the European professional organisation
for computer graphics.
Conference Proceedings:
The Conference Proceedings will be published by
"Eurographics UK Chapter". Each delegate will receive a copy of the proceedings, and
further copies will be available for sale after the event.
Commercial Opportunities:
Commercial companies are invited to participate in the conference.
Suppliers are invited to place advertisements in the Conference Proceedings, place flyers
in the delegate packs, display information about their products or to provide sponsorship.
Contact Huw Jones, the Conference Chair, for details.
