Keynote Lecture - Challenges for the Web in being the Global Information System for the 21st Century

Professor Bob Hopgood, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory

Abstract

The Web is changing from a simple page delivery system based on HTTP and HTML to a system providing information not data to all. The current 60 Million users is just the start of that evolution.

What are the problems and challenges in terms of Architecture, User Interface and the impact on Society?

[RAL and the European W3C Host at INRIA are currently running an Esprit leveraging action called W3C-LA to raise awareness of the Web and its potential application in European commerce. One of the activities in that action is to set up a number of W3C Offices throughout Europe. Bob Hopgood is in charge of the UK W3C Office at RAL and the dissemination activities within W3C-LA.]
